Ladies and gentlemen, brace yourselves, because here comes the Long Breath Diet. This amazing diet is developed by the famous Japanese actor turned (self-professed) diet guru Miki Ryosuke. Ryosuke says that this ‘diet’ consists of breathing exercises that take between two and five minutes a day. Apparently no changes to your diet are required.

According to Ryosuke, the “secret” behind the diet is two-fold. Marcelle Pick, an OB/GYN NP explained her view on deep breathing to Medical Daily. “Though not a substitute for exercise, it’s a great first step for women just beginning an exercise plan, and deep breathing enhances the benefits of any form of exercise,” she said. Deep breathing exercises provides the body with oxygen. The oxygen absorbs nutrients and can help rid the body of toxins, which can lead to weight loss.

The ‘diet’ is based on two breathing techniques:

  • Place one foot in front of the other with most of your weight on the back foot and your buttocks clenched. As you breathe in to a count of three you raise your arms above your head. You then exhale to a count of seven pushing all the air out of your mouth vigorously and engaging your abs.
  • Stand upright with one hand on your belly and the other on your lower back. Oh and your buttocks clenched. You breathe in for a count of three, drawing your belly in towards your spine and then exhale for a count of seven, sucking in your stomach even more.
