Good quality coffee can offer numerous health benefits. However, drinking it immediately after you wake up is really not a good idea.

There are many good reasons why it is advisable to wait at least one hour and a half after you wake up and then drink your first cup of coffee.

Here is a list of some bad effects caused by drinking coffee on empty stomach:

coffee

1. Low Serotonin Levels

Many people don’t know this, but coffee suppresses your appetite. That’s why people who drink coffee on empty stomach usually skip breakfast.

By skipping your breakfast you disable your body to produce serotonin – neurotransmitter which makes you feel happy and calm.

That’s why serotonin also contributes to good night sleep. In the evening serotonin in your body is transformed into melatonin. Melatonin is often responsible for insomnia problems.

So you can drink coffee in the morning but always do that after breakfast!

2. Digestion Problems

When you drink coffee on empty stomach, the caffeine badly affects digestion, causing a bloated feeling and other similar symptoms of irritable bowel like for example irregularity and pain. How is this possible?

Well, your adrenal glands are stimulated by caffeine and this leads to a production of stress hormones known as adrenalin and cortisol.
A response known as “fight or flight” is triggered by these hormones. This response is excellent when you run from a wild animal, but it is totally unnecessary when you sit in your office or breakfast table.

These hormones increase the blood pressure and heart rate, and in order for you to be able to run, the liver begins to release blood sugar to supply energy for your muscles.
In order to deliver energy to where it is necessary the most, your digestive system also shuts.

Healthier Alternatives

Right after you wake up you should start your day by drinking a glass of water. It can be both lemon water of ACV and honey water. These drinks positively affect your digestive system and help your body remove toxins.

This easy trick will be very beneficial for you, especially if you absolutely need to start your day with a cup of coffee.

Practicing this will eliminate all the harmful effects that appear with drinking coffee on empty stomach:
Tomorrow morning just add just a little coconut butter or oil in your first morning coffee.
